Qatar Reaffirms Great Interest in Work of Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia

The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its great interest in the work of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), since its accession to the conference at the 2014 Shanghai Summit, indicating its participation in many of its activities, including the participation of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in the 5th Summit in Dushanbe, which came to demonstrate its interest in strengthening and developing cooperation with friendly Asian countries in all areas of common interest, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

This came in the speech of the State of Qatar, delivered by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi via videoconferencing, before the Ministerial Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the CICA Member States.

The meeting is taking place today and the world is witnessing rapid changes and transformations that call for intensifying cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels, in addition, the coronavirus (COVID-19 pandemic represents an unprecedented challenge and threat to humanity, assuring of the importance of collective action and coordination to move beyond this crisis, HE the Minister said.

HE Al Muraikhi affirmed that the State of Qatar has strengthened the rapid response to face the dangerous repercussions of the crisis, as it has provided USD88 million to support the COVID-19 response to more than 80 countries worldwide, adding that the State of Qatar is also working with the United Nations Development Program, in the innovation lab, which includes more than 47 countries, to devise solutions to address the negative consequences of the pandemic.

HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs underlined the State of Qatar's continued support for international institutions to develop health, prosperity, and stability.

The State of Qatar calls for the adoption of dialogue as a basic method for resolving all disputes between countries and encourages dialogue between religions, civilizations, and cultures through organizing several regional and international conferences, HE Al Muraikhi said.

Also, HE the Minister affirmed the State of Qatar's condemnation of terrorism, extremism, and violence in all its forms and manifestations, regardless of its motives and source, reaffirming the State of Qatar's support for all regional and international efforts concerned with combating terrorism and drying up its sources.

He added that the State of Qatar believes that the countries of the Asian continent have many available fields and commonalities to make the most of the capabilities available to them, adding that the Asian continent countries are distinguished with their geographical and environmental diversity as well as rich and varied historical civilizations and cultures.

HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi thanked HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi for the successful organization of the meeting and presidency of the conference for the current session. His Excellency also thanked the Republic of Tajikistan for the previous presidency that witnessed the successful organization of the 5th CICA Summit in June 2019.
