Tokyo - Information Office -  March 21

HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Japan Hassan bin Mohammed Rafi Al Emadi made a tour of inspection to two facilities, which were completed by the Qatar Friendship Fund (QFF) in Japan in Fukushima prefecture, as part of the fund's projects for the reconstruction of areas that witnessed widespread damage due to the earthquake and tsunami disasters in March 2011.

HE the Ambassador, along with members of the embassy, Minister Plenipotentiary of the Embassy Abdullah bin Jassim Al Zeyarah and the Third Secretary at the embassy Nasser bin Yousef Al Kaabi, began the tour with a visit to Qatar Sports Park in Shirakawa City in Fukushima, the hardest-hit prefectures. The Ambassador was welcomed by the Mayor of Shirakawa Kazuo Suzuki, and a number of senior officials.

Suzuki expressed his thanks and appreciation for the generous assistance provided by the State of Qatar and the great support for the efforts to rebuild the city, pointing out that many of the affected areas have regained their vitality, thanks to the efforts of the QFF, and that this sports facility contributes to refining talents and discovering sports skills for the youth of the city and the surrounding areas.

For his part, HE Ambassador Al Emadi expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and reception, noting that the projects of the QFF in the disaster-affected areas represent a symbol of friendship and cooperation between Qatar and Japan and the two friendly peoples.

On the second stop during the inspection tour, HE the Ambassador paid a visit to "Elem" educational facility that provides students with practical experience, implemented by the QFF in Iwaki City.

HE was welcomed by Iwaki City Mayor Toshio Shimizu, and a number of senior officials.

Shimizu reiterated his thanks to the government and people of the State of Qatar for all the QFF's projects and for Elem Project.

The generous donation from the State of Qatar came at a time when the affected areas were in need to get out of the consequences of the disaster, the Mayor added.

The project, he said, contributes to building the capabilities and skills of young people in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, in order to provide a prosperous future for the Japanese generations.

For his part, Ambassador Al Emadi expressed his pride in the ability of friends in Japan to quickly recover from that disaster, which considered as a source of inspiration for everyone around the world, stressing that the Qatari people always stand side by side with friends in Japan, and that this friendship, which extended for nearly fifty years, will continue.
