Workshop Organized by Ministry of Foreign Affairs on National Mechanism for Reporting and Follow-up Concluded

The virtual workshop on "strengthening support for the establishment of the national mechanism for reporting and follow-up in the State of Qatar, organized by the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Centre for South-West Asia and the Arab Region, and the Treaty Body Capacity Building Programme in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Beirut was concluded.

The workshop was attended by HE Acting Director of the Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Turki bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Regional Representative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the Middle East and North Africa Ruwaida Al Hajj and representatives of a number of relevant government entities in the State of Qatar.

During the final day of the workshop, several presentations were made, most notably the presentation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Head of Human Rights Treaties Department Hanadi Al Shafei about drafting state report to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, replies to list of issues prior to reporting (LOIPR), the progress made and the current position of the State of Qatar in the field of human rights and the potential challenges and opportunities for transforming them into factors of strength.

The final day also included a discussion on the ability to manage information from recommendations to implementation, classify recommendations and how to deal with repeated ones, collect and shar information, especially the different roles and the importance of self-assessment and identify the importance of the database, in addition to a presentation on the international human rights index and the database of national recommendations.

The follow-up and implementation of recommendations were also reviewed, especially the Recommendations Implementation Plan (RIP) of the convention for the protection of persons with disabilities, how to effectively follow up and implement recommendations, identify the elements of the implementation plan, self-assess of the implementation of the recommendations and determine priorities for implementing the recommendations.
