Foreign Minister Meets German Counterpart

Berlin/ 28 March 2014/ HE the Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah has paid an official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany during which he met today with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier. During the meeting, the two sides discussed relations between the two friendly countries and means of developing them as well as the latest regional and international developments. They also exchanged views on a host of matters of mutual concern. Addressing a joint press conference with his German counterpart, HE the Foreign Minister said the Qatari-German relations have always been based on mutual respect, common interests and constructive cooperation between the two countries, noting that many matters have been discussed HE Dr. Al Attiyah said : We in Qatar view Germany as a strategic partner in bilateral relations with Qatar. He added: When we talk about the Qatari -German relations, we are not just talking about economic matters or cooperation in the economic sphere, as there are many other areas where we cooperate with friends in Germany, such as culture, education and health . Dr. Al Attiyah explained that there are more than 180 companies in Qatar, including 27 German companies while the rest are joint Qatari-German companies . On the Middle East peace process, HE the Foreign Minister said Qatar supports the efforts of US Secretary of State John Kerry, hoping that there would be a fair result in the near future as agreed at the underway negotiations. He explained that talks during the meeting covered the Syrian crisis that still tops the scene in any talks due to the horrific suffering of the Syrian people, adding that the talks were held to find a swift political solution to enable the Syrian people emerge from what they are subjected to. In response to a question about the workforce and the State of Qatar's organizing of the World Cup 2022, Dr. Al Attiyah said there is a wrong concept about the issue of employment in Qatar and the link between the issue of employment and the 2022 World Cup is noticeable . He added: In fact, we have Qatar (National) Vision 2030, and the infrastructure for sports facilities in Qatar for the World Cup 2022 is almost complete. We need only two pitches from now until 2022. Although we have our vision 2022 for the development of Qatar and we are progressing accordingly, the State of Qatar took this issue seriously and has appointed an international company, not to polish the image of Qatar, but because the State of Qatar is really opting for development and for upgrading the standard of living of the workforce, and this is required by our Constitution in Qatar, HE the Foreign Minister said. He said the Constitution of the State of Qatar requires the treatment of employees and workers at a level befitting their humanity. In addition to that, Qatar also helps greatly the economies of the countries that participates in its development and supply it with manpower . Al-Attiyah pointed out that a report on this subject will soon be furnished, and there will be good tides to anyone who tries to question the State of Qatar. Everyone will be astonished for the steps taken by Qatar and what it will be doing to correct mistakes, if there are any, He stressed . Concluding Dr. Al Attiyah said: We do not fear that there might be mistakes, but we do not accept that work on the correction of such mistakes is not done, because our main objective is to develop our country to the level which calls for valuable humanity which it always deserves.
