Qatar Development Fund, UNDP Sign Memorandum of Intent

El Fasher/ 28 April 2014/ Qatar Development Fund (QVN) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) signed Monday a memorandum of intent to implement projects undertaken under Qatar donation that was announced during Doha donors' conference in 2013. The memo was signed by HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohamed Al Muraikhi, QVN General Manager and Director of International Development Department at Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ali al-Zaatari, the UN Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan. The signing ceremony was attended by HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud. Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) after the signing ceremony, Dr Al Muraikhi said under the memo the UNDP will provide the Qatari side with the requirements of early recovery projects in Darfur in order to begin transferring funds needed to execute the projects of development strategy in Darfur. This strategy, he said, was adopted during the donors' conference in Doha, where Qatar pledged $500 million. $88.5 million of this amount will be allocated for urgent and early recovery projects, he added. Dr Al Muraikhi affirmed that $10 million of this has already been paid as first instalment to implement a list of projects approved by UNDP.
