Qatar Invites ITU Council to Participate in ITU Telecom World 2014

Geneva/ 6 May 2014/ The State of Qatar has invited the Council of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to participate in ITU Telecom World 2014, which will be held in Doha from 7 to 10 December. The invitation was extended by HE Faisal bin Abdullah Al Hanzab, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva, when he delivered a speech before the 2014 session of ITU Council currently being held in Geneva. The Qatari Permanent Representative said that the 2014 conference presents a unique opportunity to discuss the issues of information technology, communications and networking system. With strategic position at the crossroads of three continents, Qatar provides the ideal location to further discuss the agenda of the ITU Telecom World Conference on harnessing the power of next generation technology for the benefit of all, Al Hanzab added. He noted that Qatar's digital landscape keeps growing at an accelerating pace, as the country is witnessing a steady increase in digital education, health care and trade. He pointed out that Qatar spotted significant investments to improve its infrastructure and it is moving ahead towards achieving the National Vision 2030, which aims to make an advanced, sustainable and diverse economy in the state. Al Hanzab affirmed that Qatar was the first Arab country to organize the Asian Games in 2006 and the first Arab country to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
