Qatar Participates in NAM Conference in Algiers

Algiers/ 28 May 2014/ Activities of 17th Ministerial Conference of Heads of State or Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) began here Wednesday. HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani leads Qatar's delegation to the conference. In a speech he delivered before the conference, HE Assistant Foreign Minister said that the conflicts, variables and violations of the rights of peoples make imperative on all of us to adhere to NAM's principles and values, saying while NAM is represented by its weight majority at the international arena, it should have an active role in solving international crises and implementing commitments to achieve goals of the gathering. He reiterated Qatar's due keenness to uphold the message and the role of NAM in addressing international and regional situations, saying Qatar seeks to be a positive and an active party at the international level, within the framework of NAM. HE Sheikh Mohammed reiterated his country's pride of its outstanding and balanced political and economic relations at both bilateral and multilateral. The Qatari senior official further noted that despite the international efforts being exerted to reach a solution to the chronic Arab-Israeli conflict ,such a solution seems sadly elusive due to Israeli denial of the Palestinian people's rights to establish their independent state. HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani pointed to Qatar's firm position to support the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people's right to establish their independent state. HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs said ." We confirm our support for the Palestinian national reconciliation which was recently reached between the two Palestinian parties and called upon Israel to remove the settlements and stop the expansion in any new settlement construction, preserve the Arab identity of Al-Quds and stop abuses in the occupied Palestinian territories , especially in the blockaded Gaza Strip ....the matter which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law and international legitimacy resolutions" , the Qatari official told the gathering. He pointed out that Qatar has supported a political solution for resolving Syrian cause through the Geneva process and on the basis of the first Geneva Declaration to resolve the current Syrian crisis , and it was our hope, as all other States the process would be a success and realize the aspirations and vision of the Syrian people for building a civil , democratic and multi-party state. He stressed that Qatar has made development, its essential goal of its policy and orientations, stressing that Qatar has worked out a comprehensive national strategy on human development according to Qatar's national vision in 2030, he stated that it was keen to share the international community in the ongoing preparations for the United Nations plan for after 2015.
