Cairo/ 15 July 2014/ HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah on Monday led the Qatari delegation participating in the Arab League Council States meeting at the Ministerial Level in its extraordinary session, held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. In his address to the emergency ministerial meeting, HE the Foreign Minister thanked the State of Kuwait for its invitation to hold this emergency meeting, stressing that it comes under exceptional and complex circumstances due to the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip in an unfortunate and inhumane scene of killings, arrests and house demolitions as well as other aggressive acts that constitute a challenge to the International Community and a flagrant violation of the international law, human values ??and the international conventions on human rights. HE Al Attiyah stressed that what Israel sees as a justification for this aggression, which is the killing of three Israeli settlers in an area in the West Bank under the auspices of Israel's security, is just an excuse, pointing out that the aggression came in response to the Palestinian unity. HE the Minister said that we all know that Israel breaches its obligations towards the Palestinians, which confirms its breach of the truce agreement signed in Cairo in 2012, as well as a breach of the prisoner exchange convention after receiving Israeli soldier Shalit. HE the Foreign Minister warned that in front of the failure of the Security Council to stand with the truth, respond to the voice of human conscience against injustice and, take a positive and effective attitude to issue a decision of an immediate halt to Israeli attacks, the continuation of this aggression will lead to dire results in the entire region. In this regard, HE said that all possible means to help the Palestinian people and stop this aggression should be taken through intensifying joint Arab action to force Israel to comply with all the resolutions of the international legitimacy and abandon the use of force in order to reach a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region. HE Dr. Al Attiyah said that the State of Qatar did not and will not hesitate to exert all efforts to stop this attack On this occasion, HE the Minister of Foreign Affairs hailed the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in Gaza in almost impossible conditions in the face of aggression. HE Dr. Al Attiyah said that Arab countries and the international actors should work hard to immediately end this unjust blockade and open all the crossings in front of the people of Gaza. By realizing the seriousness of the continuation of this situation and its implications for the region, HE Al Attiyah proposed to set up a commercial port in the sector if possible under an international supervision as a temporary solution to alleviate the suffering of the people there in order to establish their Independent State based on 1967 borders. HE also pointed out that a mechanism with international guarantees from influential countries in the international community must be found to enable the Palestinian Authority to pay the salaries of Gaza's employees, who represent more than 50,000 families, stressing that all of this require an Arab and diplomatic move depends on the Arab influence in the international balance. In this context, HE the Minister hails the efforts of the Palestinian National Authority on the diplomatic arena and its decision to continue harvesting the results of the recognition of the Palestinian state on the level of other international institutions, pointing at the same time to the commitments on providing financial assistance to the people suffering in Gaza and the activation of all resolutions adopted by the Arab League for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
