Qatar Calls for Adoption of More Laws Against Children Abuses

New York/ 09 September 2014/The State of Qatar has underlined the importance of taking more stringent and concrete measures against those who commit violations and abuses against children. It also called for prevention of the military use of schools, and the adoption of more laws that criminalize these violations, and the fight against impunity of the perpetrators, and ensure quick and effective accountability . This came in a speech delivered today by HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al -Thani, the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations in New York before a meeting of the UN Security Council on "Children and Armed Conflict." HE Sheikha Alia highlighted the importance of the , "children and not soldiers" campaign to end and prevent the recruitment and use of children by government armed forces in the conflicts, which she said it comes at an appropriate time with an increasing proportion of violations of recruitment of child soldiers in conflicts in many regions of the world, and other challenges and serious violations committed against them. She added , we gravely concerned about the diversity of forms and ways of these violations, which represents without doubt a humanitarian crisis list, it is in addition to the killing , and recruitment of child soldiers and sexual assaults against them. HE Sheikha Alia urged for more efforts in order to stop all violations and atrocities any child in the world should not be exposed to, calling for investing in the future of these children who are in dire need of help and re-integration into their communities.
