Qatar Concerned at Growing Manifestations of Intolerance and Violence Based on Racism

New York /Information Office / 04 November 2014/ The State of Qatar has expressed concern at the growing manifestations of intolerance and violence based on racism, and language of hatred which undermine efforts to combat all forms of intolerance. Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to the full and effective implementation of the Durban Declaration and its plan of action. This came in the statement of the State of Qatar at the Third United Nations Commission, (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee), item No. 66/the eradication of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance ", and agenda item No. 67/the" right of peoples to self-determination ", delivered by Amina Salim Al-Maliki, member of Qatar delegation to the 69th session of the UN General Assembly. The State of Qatar emphasized the urgent need to disseminate the values of diversity, respect and tolerance, and criminalizing activities that promote and incite racial discrimination. It stressed the need for enhancing the national capacity-building and the participation of all segments of society, including Governments, civil society actors, national human rights institutions, the media, in order to eliminate racial discrimination and promote equality, and the culture of tolerance and peace . Al-Maliki said: "Qatar's delegation had read with great interest the various reports under these items, and we commend the efforts that have been made in the preparation of such reports, and their important and comprehensive information.". She expressed Qatar's support to the related statement made by Bolivia on behalf of the Group of 77 and China.
