Vienna/ Information Office/ 20 May 2015/ Qatar is taking part in the 24th session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), which kicked off in Vienna to review international cooperation in the penal field and progress made by world countries in tackling crime. HE Major General Dr. Abdullah Yusuf Al-Maal, advisor to HE the minister of interior and chairman of the preparatory committee for the U.N. Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Doha 2015), is leading Qatar's delegation. The 24th session will endorse the outcome of Doha 2015, which was held in April, and will dedicate discussion panels to ways of implementing the Doha Declaration that was issued at the end of the conference. In his speech, HE Al Maal pointed to the role of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in the good preparation for the session as well as the comprehensive documents that it presented, reflecting the active role of the office in enhancing the use of the Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) and its protocols and tackling the risks that organized crime pose on the values, security and stability of societies. He added that the Doha congress was highly successful and symbolized the international will to face dangers and mutual challenges and putting the international society's interests above all. He added that Qatar exerted huge efforts in preparing for the 13th congress so as to it lived up to the challenge facing the international community in the field of organized crime and criminal justice systems. Under the directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, HE Al-Maal said, Qatar insists to continue working together and cooperating with member states, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, and all concerned parties in order to sustain the success of the 13th congress and implement the Doha Declaration.
