GCC Ministerial Council Backs Qatar on 2022 FIFA World Cup

Riyadh /Information Office/ 11 June 2015/ GCC Ministerial Council Thursday strongly condemned the vilification campaign against Qatar's right to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and reiterated their full support and solidarity since it won the right to organise this important event by winning the bid after fair competition. This support for Qatar came in the final communique of the 135th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council which was held here today under the chairmanship of HE the Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, who is also the chairman of the current session of the Council, GCC foreign ministers, and GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani participated in the session which praised the results of the 15th Consultative Meeting of GCC leaders, held in Riyadh on May 5, 2015. The final communique hailed the outcome of the meeting of GCC leaders with the President of the French Republic which was held on May 5, 2015 in Riyadh, where the foundations of strategic partnership were laid. The final communique also commended the outcome of the meetings of GCC leaders with the President of the United States in Washington and Camp David on 13-14 May 2015. The Ministerial Council expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the ministerial meeting on strategic dialogue held with UK Foreign Minister Philip Hammond on June 3, 2015. The Council expressed thanks and appreciation of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud on the establishment of King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Work, praising Saudi Arabia's allocation of SR1 billion for the center's activities. The Ministerial Council praised the efficiency and capacity of Bahrain's security services in foiling a terrorist plot that was aimed at the security of the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Ministerial Council condemned the launching of projectiles from Yemeni territory against some border cities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, praising the capacity and efficiency of the Saudi forces in responding to the sources of projectiles. The Council stressed the right of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to take necessary steps to defend its security and stability and to protect its citizens and borders. The Ministerial Council reviewed the developments of joint action, and discussed the developments of a number of political issues on regional and international arenas.
