Qatar's Ambassador Delivers Lecture at German Parliament 'Bundestag'

Berlin /Information Office/ 11 June 2015/ HE Qatar's Ambassador to Germany Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Khulaifi delivered a lecture at German parliament (Bundestag) on Qatar's preparations to host 2022 FIFA world cup as well as its efforts to improve the conditions of expatriate workers. The lecture was delivered in response to an invitation from members of the country's ruling party Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in Bundestag's Foreign Relations Committee. It was attended by Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee MP Dr Norbert Rottgen, and Foreign Affairs Spokesman in the Bundestag for the CDU MP Philipp Missfelder, in addition to a number of prominent German MPs. In his lecture, His Excellency denied allegations by some German media that Qatar is financing terrorism and downplayed Qatar's efforts aimed at improving living conditions for expatriate workers while focusing on false accusations. He introduced the German MPs to efforts undertaken by Qatar to improve the conditions of expatriate workers along with its preparations to host 2022 FIFA world cup, adding that some German politicians seek to attract media attention by attacking Qatar. He rejected accusations of financing terrorism, stressing that Qatar played a key role in the war against terrorism. The German parliament members appreciated Qatar's position, and praised the level of bilateral relations between Qatar and Germany.
