Qatar Supports Efforts of G 3+3 and Iran

Vienna /Information Office/ 12 June 2015/ The State of Qatar has confirmed it support to efforts made by Group 3+3 and the Islamic Republic of Iran to reach a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue, calling on each of Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to intensify their efforts to settle pending issues to resolve outstanding issues, and to show maximum flexibility and political will in order to overcome the remaining obstacles and reach a final and comprehensive solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. This came in a statement by Qatar's Ambassador to the Republic of Austria and its Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna HE Ali Khalfan Al-Mansouri during his participation in the meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (June 2015 Session) under item VII, "Implementation of the Safeguards Agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran". HE the Ambassador expressed high appreciation of the Mission of the State of Qatar for the efforts of the International Atomic Energy Agency in carrying out its mandate in Iran, saying "They are great, diversified and overlapping of which some are related to the implementation of its mission in the declared facilities under the safeguards agreement of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and others related to the implementation of the cooperation framework to clarify the outstanding issues and, finally, its tasks for the implementation of the joint action plan signed between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Group 3 + 3. Ambassador Al Mansouri also expressed the appreciation of the delegation of the State of Qatar for the joint effort of Group 3 + 3 and the Islamic Republic of Iran in the context of the joint plan of action, thanking the IAEA Director-General for his report on the implementation of the safeguards agreement under the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and the relevant provisions of Security Council resolutions with the Islamic Republic of Iran published in the (GOV/2015/34), and to the Deputy Director General for safeguards for holding the briefing session on 3 June 2015, the explanation provided by the Report. Al-Mansouri said "the State of Qatar has supported the efforts of Group 3 + 3 and the Islamic Republic of Iran and supported the cooperation framework programme between the IAEA and the Islamic Republic of Iran to reach a political solution to the Iranian nuclear issue," adding that "Qatar calls on Iran and the IAEA to intensify their efforts to resolve outstanding issues, and is looking forward to the end of this month to see the fruit of the joint effort to Group 3 + 3 and Iran in reaching the comprehensive plan of action, and also calls on all parties to show maximum flexibility and political will to overcome The remaining obstacles and reach a final and comprehensive solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. " HE Al-Mansouri explained that the IAEA managed in the past two decades to develop its scientific, technical and field capabilities to implement its missions under the NPT in cases of non-compliance indicators, saying "it is the only body capable of providing credible assurances regarding the absence of nuclear material and undeclared nuclear activities.'' Concluding, Ambassador Al-Mansouri called on all countries to provide the maximum possible support to the International Atomic Energy Agency to help it carry out its mandate in this area. Group 3 + 3 comprises Germany, France and the United Kingdom, China, the United States and Russia.
