Ankara/ Information Office/ 02 September 2015/UN Under-Secretary-General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien and his accompanying delegation paid today a visit to the headquarters of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Turkey. During the visit, O'Brien met with HE Qatar's Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey Salem bin Mubarak Al Shafi, where they discussed ways to develop cooperation and coordination between the State of Qatar and other relevant UN humanitarian organizations, and reviewed the humanitarian situation of the refugees in a number of countries in the region as well as humanitarian relief efforts. O'Brien extended, on this occasion, his thanks to the State of Qatar for positive positions toward the Syrian issue and the Syrian people and for the continued support of the United Nations and its competent agencies, praising Qatar's fulfilment of all its humanitarian obligations to various international organizations. He also lauded Qatar's great support for Syrian refugees and the displaced inside and outside Syria as well as the assistance provided by the State of Qatar to those affected by humanitarian crises. For his part, HE the Ambassador congratulated O'Brien on the occasion of his recent appointment in office and wished him success in his duties, looking forward to cooperate with him in his new humanitarian mission.
