Qatari Ambassador Participates in Oberammergau Symposium on NATO Partnership

Oberammergau/ Information Office/ 13 September 2015/ HE Qatar's Ambassador to Belgium and the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the NATO Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al-Thani has participated in "Oberammergau Symposium" organized by the alliance at the NATO School in Oberammergau, Germany. During his address to the symposium, HE the Ambassador noted to the impact of partnerships on the response of NATO and the partners to the changing security environment and the achievements of the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative, calling for more political consultations and constructive cooperation between NATO and partner countries. For his part, NATO's Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Terry Stamatopoulos expressed his thanks and appreciation for the role played by the State of Qatar and its wise policy that aims to maintain security and peace in the region, pointing to the events hosted in the last period, such as the NATO and Security in the Gulf Region Conference and Disarmament and Non-proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Conference. The symposium was attended by NATO School Commandant, Captain Scott Butler and a large number of NATO officials, ambassadors and diplomats from NATO member states as well as countries participate in NATO's partnership agreements. The symposium discussed partnership with NATO and the extent of their development since the decisions issued by the alliance leaders in Wales Summit and expected outlook for the next NATO summit in Warsaw, Poland, in addition to the repercussions of the change that is taking place in the security environment and its effects on the partnerships between the NATO and partner countries.
