Qatar to Continue Supporting Somali People - Al Rumaihi

New York /Information Office/ 29 September 2015/ The State of Qatar has confirmed that it will continue along with other Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to support the Somali people and the way to build a stable, democratic, unified and sovereign state in Somalia, which is one of the founding members of the organization. This came in a statement the State of Qatar at the annual ministerial meeting of the Contact Group of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Somalia at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, delivered by HE Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi. HE Al Rumaihi said that the State of Qatar will continue to provide support to the brethren in Somalia, not on the physical level, but also political, pointing out that HE Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al-Attiyah stressed during his visit to the Somali capital Mogadishu in May last year, had stressed Qatar's keenness on promoting common bilateral relations between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Somalia in various fields to benefit the two countries and peoples. He noted that the Ministerial Contact Group on Somalia reflects the OIC's commitment to support Somalia, consistent with the Council of Foreign Ministers for the relevant resolutions, most recently resolution number "1/42-Q" issued by the meeting of the Council at its session held in Kuwait last May, pointing out that in addition to the meeting of the Contact Group in September of last year here in New York, and the meeting was held on 27 May in Kuwait on the sidelines of the OIC Foreign Ministers Council session. HE Al Rumaihi said that Somalia over long years suffered from a deteriorating situation on the political, security, humanitarian and institutional level, adding that the last three years since the end of the transitional period had seen a number of positive developments to overcome the impacts of the previous stage, a matter which had caused a relative satisfaction.
