HE Foreign Minister Calls for Prioritizing the Right to Education

New York/ Information Office/ 02 October 2015/ HE Foreign Minister Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah stressed Friday on prioritizing the right to education as millions of children around the world are still deprived of it. His Excellency was speaking during a high-level working breakfast organized in New York by Qatar's permanent delegation to the UN. The breakfast was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. HE the Foreign Minister said that providing good education is facing many challenges, some of them are armed struggles in some regions and natural disasters. His Excellency noted that the increased number of attacks on schools, teachers and students and expressed his sorrow on the phenomena. Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who is the UN Special Envoy on Global Education, attended the event. Former Portuguese President and UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilization Jorge Sampaio also attended the event. The participants shed lights on some of the challenges that face education across the globe. As well as the achievements made over the past years, particularly since the UN General Assembly Resolution on the Right to Education in Emergencies. The State of Qatar was one of the main countries that worked on that resolution.
