Qatar and Six Other Countries Release Statement on Russia's Offensive in Syria

Washington/ Information Office/ 02 October 2015/ The State of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, The United States of America, Germany, Britain, France and Turkey all called on Russia today to end its aggression against Syrian opposition and civilians and focus its effort on fighting ISIS. The countries released a joint statement saying that Russia's recent military activity in Syria will increase the tension in the country. The statement read as follows: "We, the Governments of France, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States of America state the following in view of the recent military actions of the Russian Federation in Syria: We express our deep concern with regard to the Russian military build-up in Syria and especially the attacks by the Russian Air Force on Hama, Homs and Idlib since yesterday which led to civilian casualties and did not target ISIS. These military actions constitute a further escalation and will only fuel more extremism and radicalization. We call on the Russian Federation to immediately cease its attacks on the Syrian opposition and civilians and to focus its efforts on fighting ISIS."
