Qatar: OIC Must Intensify Efforts to Face Muslim-World Challenges

New York/ Information Office/ 02 October 2015/ Developments in Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen as well as the growing threat of terrorism calls on the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to intensify its efforts in face of those challenge, A statement from the State of Qatar read Friday. The statement was read today by Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi during the annual meeting of foreign ministers of member countries. The meeting was held in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. The Assistant Foreign Minister said that the Israeli aggression directed at Al Aqsa mosque aims at creating a new status quo that divides the mosque. He added that such actions was a provocation to the billion-plus Muslims around the world. The statement maintained that while the State of Qatar condemns the Israeli actions, the country will work with the international community in getting peace negotiations back on track with the aim of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East-Jerusalem as its capital. On the Syrian refugee crisis, the statement said that the Islamic world must work on helping the Syrian people and maintain the unity of Syria. The statement also stressed that the violations of the Syrian regime must end. On Yemen, the statement conveyed Qatar's full commitment to helping the legitimate authority regain power in Yemen and reach an agreement between the parties involved based on the GCC initiative and UN Security Council's resolution 2216.
