Foreign Minister Urges to Take Steps for a Just Solution to the Palestinian Cause

New York/Information Office/ 23 October 2015/ HE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, called to speed up the process of taking steps to impose a just solution to the Palestinian issue under the United Nations resolutions and moving forward stalemate in the peace process. Dr. Al Attiyah said in his statement before the United Nations Security Council Open Debate on " The Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestine Question" that this generation of young insurgent Palestinians exposed to field executions, was born with no just solution on the horizon to their cause. He called for a just and lasting solution based on withdrawal to the 1967 border and the two-state solution. He said the UN Council met to discuss the volatile situation caused by the dangerous escalation of the Israeli occupation authorities against Palestinian civilians, resulting from IOA 's policy, illegal settlements, suppression and discrimination against the Palestinian people, depriving them of fundamental rights and freedoms as well as sovereignty over their natural resources while becoming particularly vulnerable to attacks by Isreali extremists without any accountability. Dr. Al Attiyah stressed that the Palestinian Cause is important to the region and the world, and is a priority for the Arab nations, saying that it unifies democratic forces in the whole world as long as the international community is not ready to impose a just solution. He noted that the Palestinian people's fate is determined by the occupier and the reality of Palestinian life under occupation; and therefore the negotiations lost value because they are conducted without any aims or agreed foundations, referring to Israel's occupation of Jerusalem and the Golan Heights and the ruinous blockade on the Gaza Strip and wondering if the Israeli scheme of temporal division of Al-Aqsa Mosque will lead later to a spatial division. On the Syrian crisis, HE Dr. Al Attiyah said peoples of the region are living another deepened and intensified tragedy, pointing out that the Syrian issue has become an international issue at the expense of the Syrian people, slamming the international community's failure to solve it. The regime in Syria has breached all limits until the use of chemical weapons and explosive barrels against its own people, commission of genocide and mass displacement and no one is lifting a finger, he said, adding that for this reason this regime still exists. Despite the numerous discussions about the Syrian issue, no one answered to this question: Why we do not provide protection to Syrian civilians ? Why we were not able to provide protection for them? I do not think that there is a satisfying answer to this question! Dr. Al Attiyah went on saying. On the other hand, the Foreign Minister said that there is lots of talk about the fight against terrorism and it is our duty to eradicate it however the Syrian people believe that the main problem is that the regime practices terrorism against its own people. Dealing with the Syrian regime, has turned unfortunately from being a regime which committed crimes against humanity, to testing its usefulness in the fight against terrorism, Dr. Al Attiyah commented. He called for urgent and collective action to implement the Geneva Communique of 30 June 2012 calling for the establishment of a transitional governing body that would "exercise full executive powers to achieve the goals of the Syrian people and the revolution and spare the region and the world the dangers of terrorism.
