 HE Al Nasser Calls For Collective Action on Migrant and Refugee Crisis

London/ Information Office/ 28 October 2015/ HE the UN High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Nassir bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser called for unifying efforts in order to promote international peace and security as well as peaceful coexistence among the various groups. He also stressed the need for a collective action on migrants and refugee crisis, calling for the integration of refugees within the communities in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted last September during the 17th session of the UN General Assembly. This came at a speech by HE Al Nasser at the International Symposium organized by the "AlBabtain Center for Dialogue among Civilizations" at Oxford University under the theme of " One World .. Shared Challenges" to coincide with the celebration marking the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, in the presence of international figures. HE Al Nasser reviewed the challenges facing the world including climate change, the crisis of migrants and refugees, new media along with means of empowering youth and their integration within the community. He also pointed to the increasing problem of extremism and terrorism, especially among young people who suffer from marginalization and despair due to the absence of their voice in decision-making circles, in addition to other problems experienced by young people because of the lack of job opportunities and deteriorating economic and political conditions in many countries. HE Al Nasser reviewed the activities conducted by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations in the field of youth empowerment through training courses and the financing of projects designed to make them aware of the concepts of respect for cultural and religious diversity. He called for collective cooperation among the international community according to the principles it agreed upon after its suffered from the woes of the two world wars.
