Qatar Confirms Keenness to Enhance Cooperation with UNHCR Office

Geneva /Information Office/ 15 December 2015/ The State of Qatar has confirmed its keenness to enhance partnership and dialogue with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and its endeavours to contribute to the implementation of its humanitarian programmes and mission to protect refugees, alleviate their suffering and provide them with their humanitarian needs. This came in the speech of the State of Qatar before the UNHCR annual pledging conference for refugees, 2016, delivered by Acting Charge d'Affaires at the Mission the State of Qatar to UN and other International Organizations in Geneva Jassim bin Sayyar Al Maawda. In his speech, Al Maawda explained that the State of Qatar, upon the directives of its wise leadership, worked earnestly to be present at a large number of humanitarian crises in various parts of the world regardless of religious or nationality to deliver different types of humanitarian and relief assistance to refugees, as well as displaces and affected persons. Al Maawda pointed out that many Qatari charitable organizations have made strategic partnerships that serve humanitarian activities in the field of refugees' protection and proved competence of being proactive in facing some crises and reaching out to local communities and those in need of humanitarian assistance as early as possible, and in supporting all international humanitarian and developmental efforts. The State of Qatar also reiterated its commitment to provide the necessary support for the UNHCR's activities and programmes to enhance its capacities to overcome challenges and difficulties facing its operations worldwide. During the conference Al Maawda announced that the State of Qatar has donated USD 200 thousands in support of the UNHCR's budget for 2016.
