Arab Foreign Ministers Condemn Kidnapping of Qatari Nationals

Cairo/Information Office/ 24 December 2015/ Arab League Council at the level of Foreign Ministers, in its extraordinary meeting held here today at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League condemned the kidnapping of the Qatari nationals in southern Iraq. In a statement issued at the conclusion of its meeting, the Council noted that it is following with deep concern the abduction of a number of Qatari nationals in southern Iraq Qatari , stressing condemnation of this shameful act which is contrary to the Islamic religion provisions and all divine laws and constitutes a criminal violation of Human Rights, as well as contrary to Arab values ??and ethics and offend the fraternal relations between the Arabs. The Council also expressed its full solidarity with the Government of the State of Qatar and support it in all the actions to be taken to secure the release of its citizens and restore their freedom and return safely to their homeland and their families. It expressed hope that the contacts undertaken by the Government of Qatar with the Iraqi government would yield positive results to ensure the safety of Qatari citizens and to end their detention. The Arab League Council called on the Iraqi government to shoulder its legal responsibilities and take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of the abductees Qatari citizens and release them as soon as possible, especially as they had entered the Iraqi territory through an official entry visas issued by the Iraqi Embassy in Doha, based on the consent of the Iraqi Interior Ministry, and the kidnapping incident has occurred in territory under the sovereignty of the Iraqi government and its security control.
