GCC Ministerial Council Condemns Attacks On Saudi Diplomatic Missions In Iran

Riyadh/Information Office/ 09 January 2016/ Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) Ministerial Council voiced strong condemnation and categorical rejection of the attacks against the Saudi Arabia's embassy in Tehran and consulate in Mash-had, blaming Iranian authorities and holding them responsible for these acts of terrorism, in accordance with its commitment to the Vienna Conventions of 1961 and 1963 and the international law, which makes obliges stats to protect diplomatic missions. The Council also deplored Iran's blatant interference in the internal affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which came through the Iranian hostile and inflammatory remarks on the Kingdom's execution of sentences against a number of terrorists, saying those remarks a direct incitement to attack the diplomatic missions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This came in a press statement issued at the conclusion of the 42nd extra-ordinary meeting of the GCC Ministerial Meeting which was held Saturday in Riyadh under the chairmanship of Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al Jubeir, and with the participation of the GCC Secretary-General Dr. Rashid Abdullatif Al Zayani. The statement stressed that such actions do not serve peace and security in the region and the world, and are inconsistant with the principles of good neighborliness, non-interference in the internal affairs of States and respect for their sovereignty and ignite more crises in the region. The Ministerial Council reaffirmed the GCC States' full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and their support for the decisions and measures taken by the Kingdom to fight terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and to prosecute agitators and perpetrators of terrorist acts, praising the efficiency, independence and impartiality of the Saudi judiciary system. The Council also urged the international community to take firm measures to avoid any further aggression, calling for an end to Iran's occupation of the UAE's three islands; Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb. The statement also referred to Iran's plot to carry out terrorist blasts in Bahrain, as the Kingdom recently unearthed a cell that received support from the Iran's Republican Guard and Hezbollah. The GCC chief diplomats called on the international community to get Iran committed to respecting the principle of good neighborliness and to halt its activities targeting the region's security and stability. They agreed to develop an effective mechanism to counter Iran's interference.
