Qatar Participates in Arab Human Rights Committee Meeting

Cairo/Information Office/ 14 February 2016/ The 39th session of the Arab Permanent Committee on Human Rights kicked off here Sunday at the Arab League Headquarters under the chairmanship of Dr. Mohamed bin Suleiman Al-Rashidi with participation of representatives of member states. Assistant Director of the Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Department HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Youssuf bin Jabor Al Thani is representing the State of Qatar at the meeting. In a keynote speech at the opening session, Al-Rahsidi stressed the necessity of supporting the Arab strategy for combating terrorism adopted by the member states and working to protect human rights, in the context of the fight against terrorism , cooperation and coordination with various mechanisms of the Arab League. He said that the promotion of the Arab human rights is a cornerstone in creating an active democracy, pointing out that the fulfillment of the State's international obligations, notably the charters and principles relating to human rights expresses its adherence to the legal framework that governs its behavior at domestic and international levels. Al-Rahsidi warned of the seriousness of situationn experienced by the peoples of the region such as suffering from displacement, fear, killing and destruction imposed by extremist terrorist ideologies and produced number of displaced people and refugees, stressing the need for setting a radical and scalable solutions for implementation on the ground to resolve these problems. During the five-day meeting, participants will discuss many important topics topped by addressing the Israeli violations of human rights in the occupied Arab territories and conditions of Arab prisoners imprisonned in Israeli jails and bodies of Palestinian martyrs held by Israeli occupation authorities at Al Arqam graveyard.
