Qatar's Permanent Delegation at UN Hosts Reception Ceremony

New York/ Information Office/ 22 April 2016/Qatar's permanent delegation at the United Nations held a high-level reception ceremony on the occasion of the UN General Assembly's meeting on achieving sustainable development goals through working on limiting climate change. HE Qatar's Minister of Municipality and Environment Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, President of UN General Assembly Mogens Lykketoft and Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations HE Sheikha Alia Ahmed bint Saif Al-Thani. The ceremony was held to highlight the work being done on climate change as part of pursuing sustainable development. HE the Minister gave a speech during the ceremony and said that the environment is one of the pillars of sustainable development. His Excellency stressed that climate change is one of the main priorities of the State of Qatar, evident by its hosting of United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP18). HE the Minister also highlighted the projects that the State of Qatar launched to face the threat of climate change. Such projects are related to renewable energy and water desalination, and clean transport of natural gas. Other officials who attended the ceremony was Prime Minister of Samoa, President of United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris (COP 21) and Chief Executive Officer of Development Bank of Southern Africa.
