Qatar Expresses Extreme Concern Over Catastrophic Situation in the Syrian City of Aleppo

Doha/Information Office/ 28 April 2016/ The State of Qatar has strongly condemned and expressed extreme concern over catastrophic situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo after bloody raids by regime forces in Syria on Wednesday evening, including the raid on the hospital in Aleppo. It warned that such attacks threaten the efforts made by the United Nations to bring humanitarian aid to the millions of Syrians. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said that this frequent criminal bombardment carried out by the Syrian regime grossly violates the international humanitarian law and international norms, and demonstrates an indifference to the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities reached by the international support group for Syria, and seeks to undermine the agreement, which threatens international efforts aimed at reaching a political solution to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people. The statement reiterated Qatar's call for the international community, especially the Security Council, to carry out its responsibilities to stop these crimes and to ensure the protection of the Syrian people, and to prevent undermining the chances of reaching a political settlement to the Syrian crisis.
