Qatar Supports All Efforts to Promote Peace and National Dialogue in Libya

Geneva/Information Office/28 September 2016/ The State of Qatar has reiterated support of all efforts to promote peace and national dialogue, and legitimate institutions in Libya as well as the completion of the path of political transition, the reconstruction process and national reconciliation. This came in Qatar's speech by HE Ambassador Faisal bin Abdullah Al Henzab, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and other International Organizations Office at Geneva, during the interactive dialogue session on the oral update of the High Commissioner on the situation of human rights in Libya with the participation of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Libya, as part of the 33rd session, item (10) of the Human Rights Council. HE Ambassador Al Henzab said: "the Libyan people today stand at a crossroads of the utmost importance, which makes it imperative for all parties to be of great deal of responsibility, in order to avoid the occurrence of more chaos and suffering in Libya. He called for ensuring the legitimate rights of the Libyan people, and their aspirations to achieve security, stability and prosperity and strengthen its capacity to cope with the terrorist organizations that are trying to exploit the current situation to disrupt the path of a political solution and tampering with the destiny of the Libyan people, their resources and their security and stability. ", he noted . He called for all national, regional and international efforts to provide various kinds of support needed to build and strengthen institutions legitimacy institutions and support the Libyan people in rebuilding a modern state based on the principles of democracy and respect for human rights and the rule of law.
