OIC Foreign Ministers Praise HH the Emir's Support for Peace and Development in Darfur

Tashkent/ Information Office/ 19 October 2016/ The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Cooperation Council (OIC) member states has commended the positive role of the State of Qatar under the leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in support of the peace process and development in Darfur so that everyone in Darfur can enjoy security and stability. At its forty-third session in Tashkent, the Council welcomed the mediation efforts undertaken by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to resolve the dispute between Eritrea and Djibouti, including his efforts that led to the release of four Djiboutian prisoners in Eritrea. In its resolution on "solidarity with the Republic of Sudan," the Council thanked and appreciated HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, and African Union-United Nations Joint Mediator for Darfur for their credible efforts to bring peace to Darfur. The Council commended the steps taken to implement the Darfur Peace Agreement signed in Doha, and called the general secretariat of the member states to follow up the implementation of the outcome of the international donors' conference for the reconstruction and peace in Darfur. On the situation in Somalia, the Council of Foreign Ministers appreciated the countries, including Qatar, that have contributed to transport and treat the wounded in Somalia.
