Foreign Minister Meets Ethiopian Counterpart

Addis Ababa/information office/20 December 2016/ Ethiopian Foreign Minister Workneh Gebeyehu on Tuesday met HE Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

The meeting reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and means of boosting and developing them, in addition to a set of issues of mutual interest.

HE the foreign minister said relations between Qatar and Ethiopia are historic, expressing hope for developing them at all levels.

Speaking during a joint press conference with his Ethiopian counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman said the two countries drew a roadmap to interpret the joint programs on the ground and push forward their ties, particularly in the fields of investment, economy, tourism and security, noting that businessmen in both countries will exchange visits to learn about investment opportunities.

HE the foreign minister said Qatar counts heavily on Ethiopia's international role in preserving international security and peace through its membership in the Security Council from 2017 to 2019, especially regarding regional issues, looking forward to its positive contributions to put an end to the suffering of the Arab people in Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen.

For his part, the Ethiopian foreign minister described bilateral ties as historic and solid, expressing his country's aspiration for promoting the political, economic and security partnership with Qatar.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani called on Qatari businessmen to invest in Ethiopia.
