Geneva / Information Office /June 19

The State of Qatar condemned the continued non-cooperation of Israel, the occupying power, with the mechanisms and committees of the United Nations (UN), in a blatant defiance of the Human Rights Council and a clear disregard for international institutions, which requires giving great importance to the issue of holding Israeli officials and leaders accountable to criminal justice for their violations and crimes against the Palestinian people.

This came in a the State of Qatar's speech within the Human Rights Council General Debate Under Item 7: (Human Rights Situation in Palestine and Other Occupied Arab Territories), delivered by Qatar's Permanent representative to UN Office in Geneva HE Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri.

HE the ambassador affirmed that these Israeli practices confirm the importance of Chapter VII on the agenda of the Human Rights Council because it is of great importance in documenting the violations and crimes committed by Israel against the Palestinian people. He stressed that Israel's insistence on continuing to build illegal settlements, demolishing homes, confiscating lands, forced displacement and attempts to Judaize Jerusalem and change its Arab and Islamic identity is a major obstacle to the peace process and also proofs that Israel does not believe in a two-state solution and considers itself above the law.

After fifty years after the Israeli occupation and the violations, crimes and aggression of its forces and settlers against the Palestinians, Israel insists on continuing these violations and non-compliance with international resolutions because complete absence of accountability, HE Ambassador Al Mansouri said.

The international community must therefore attach great importance to holding Israeli officials and leaders accountable to criminal justice for the violations and crimes they have committed against the Palestinian people in order to put an end to the racist Israeli violations and policies, he added.

He expressed the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of the fact that some 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have been subjected to collective punishment and unjust siege, which has turned the lives of civilians, children and women into hell and terrible humanitarian tragedies. He also expressed Qatar's deep concerns over the cutting down electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip, which will exacerbate the humanitarian conditions of civilians and cause the collapse of basic services as a whole, according to the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory.

HE Ambassador Ali Khalfan Al Mansouri said that Qatar calls on the international community to take all necessary measures to end the siege imposed on the people of Gaza and to open all crossings to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and speed up the reconstruction process in order to avoid deterioration.

Concluding his speech, HE Qatar's Permanent Representative in Geneva said that Doha reiterates its firm positions on the Palestinian issue and its full support for the right of the Palestinian people to end the occupation, self-determination and to establish their sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.
