The State of Qatar has welcomed the signing of the reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas movements, a senior Foreign Ministry source said, adding that the agreement is a step in the right direction towards ending the political impasse and restoring the partnership spirit among Palestinian parties.

The source expressed the State of Qatar's hope that the agreement will achieve the national unity that the Palestinian people look forward to and enhance efforts to tackle the threats and challenges facing the Palestinian cause.

The statement reiterated the State of Qatar's full support for the Palestinian people to decide their fate and reclaim their legitimate rights, mainly the establishment of an independent sovereign state based on the borders of June 4, 1967 with Jerusalem as its capital.
