The State of Qatar has strongly condemned the assassination of the Mayor of Misurata Mohamad Eshtewi, after being kidnapped by an armed group.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar's total rejection of criminal acts, whatever motives and reasons, that contravene all values, principles, religions and heavenly laws, and stressed the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The statement affirmed the State of Qatar's support for the Libyan political agreement, its outputs and international efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in Libya and realizing the legitimate aspirations of its brotherly people.

The statement expressed Qatar's condolences to the family of the deceased.
