Qatar Participates in Arab Transport Ministers Meeting in Alexandria

Meetings of the 31st session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers kicked off in Alexandria on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Morocco.

HE Ambassador and Qatar's Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ibrahim bin Abdulaziz Al Sahlawi is heading the delegation of the State of Qatar to the meetings.

The agenda of the 31st session of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers contains many topics related to the transport sector in its various forms, the most important of which is the economic and social council resolution 2153/2017 on support for the Palestinian economy in order to strengthen the steadfastness of the Palestinian people in confronting the Israeli occupation by providing support in the political and economic field to implement relief and development projects to mitigate the effects of aggression and rehabilitate what was destroyed by the occupation and help the State of Palestine to overcome its financial crisis.

The meeting will discuss the implementation of the goals of sustainable development 2030 for the transport sector in the Arab region and the efforts of the Arab ministries of transport in this regard in preparation for progress report on the efforts of the Arab League in implementing the goals of sustainable development 2030 and then submit it to the high-level political forum at the global level under the auspices of the United Nations Economic and Social Council, which is held annually in this regard.

The meeting will also consider the approval of the establishment of an Arab framework for cooperation among Arab States to investigate maritime accidents and the establishment of a specialized Arab center to contribute to the investigation of maritime accidents in light of the report prepared by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), on the importance and necessity of establishing this specialized center in the Arab region, in preparation for the establishment of specialized centers in other regions of the world.

During their meeting, the ministers will review the conclusions and recommendations of the forum to identify the impact of the Silk Road and find investment opportunities between the Arab countries and China, organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in cooperation and coordination with the General Secretariat of the Arab League, and by the decision of the Council of Arab Transport Ministers in its Resolution No. 449 of 2017.
