The State of Qatar provided a grant of $564 through Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) to the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) to renovate the Doha meetings' hall in the office's new building in New York.
The signing ceremony of the agreement was held at the UN Headquarters in New York on the sidelines of the high-level meeting of the countries of the South, in which HE UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and HE the current President of the UN General Assembly for the 73rd session Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces participated.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Qatar Fund For Development by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the UN Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, while it was signed on behalf of the office by UN Secretary-General's Envoy on South-South Cooperation Jorge Chediek.
Chediek expressed gratitude to the State of Qatar for its continued support to the UNOSSC, adding that the Office looks forward to strengthening this cooperation and partnership with the State of Qatar in the future.
For her part, HE Ambassador Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani noted that the State of Qatar's grant is an affirmation of the cooperation between the two countries and the countries of the South, pointing out that South-South cooperation is one of the priorities of Qatar's policy.
HE noted the importance of the second United Nations High-level Conference on South-South Cooperation to be held in Argentine capital of Buenos Aires from March 20-22, 2019, and the third South Summit to be held in Uganda in 2019.
The State of Qatar hosted the Second South Summit in 2005.
