Qatar Grants AU Commission $ 20 Million for Irregular Migration Victims

HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani met on Monday with HE Chairman of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, currently visiting Qatar.

The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation, as well as matters of common concern.

Following the meeting, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Chairman of the AU Commission witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding through which the State of Qatar would provide a grant of $20 million as a restricted grant for victims of irregular migration and human trafficking, where the grant will be used through microfinance programs to assist in the reintegration of returnees in their home countries.

Deputy Director General for Development Projects at Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) Misfer bin Hamad Al Shahwani and the AU Social Affairs Commissioner Amira Al Fadel signed the memorandum.
