Qatar Highlights IAEA's Importance in Developing Peaceful Nuclear Technologies in Member States

The State of Qatar highlighted the important role the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plays in developing the nuclear technology and delivering it to Member States through the technical cooperation program. Qatar also praised the good cooperation the agency provides to Qatari institutions in the field.

This came in a statement made by Acting Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the UN and International Organizations Abdullah bin Nasser Al Fuhaid at the IAEA Board of Governors meeting, currently held in Vienna.

In its statement, the State of Qatar pointed to the increased importance and responsibilities of the technical cooperation program in recent years as it has become a key element in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals by transferring technology to developing countries in aim to achieve economic and social progress.

The State of Qatar expressed its great satisfaction with the cooperation provided by IAEA to the national institutions, which has resulted in the implementation of a number of projects related to human health and agriculture. In addition to the benefit that many experts and technicians of the country's training programs have received from IAEA in the field of nuclear science.

The State of Qatar reiterated its keenness to support the agency's technical cooperation program by paying its full financial contributions to the program budget, as well as financing the development of the agency's laboratories in Seibersdorf for its leading role in training Member States' personnel in food security, water resource management, human health, radioactivity, environment and livestock. The State of Qatar also reiterated its determination to continue to pay its assessed contributions regularly.
