Qatar Makes Final Contribution in Financing Doha Declaration Global Program, UN Praises its Commitment

The State of Qatar paid the final installment in its contribution to funding the Doha Declaration Global Program, which is being implemented in cooperation between the State of Qatar and UN and will run for five years (2016-2020).

HE the State of Qatar's Ambassador to Republic of Austria and its Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna Sultan bin Salmeen Al Mansouri submitted the contribution during his meeting with HE Director for the Division for Treaty Affairs United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime John Brandolino.

UN official John Brandolino praised Qatar's commitment to the Doha Declaration Global Program which the State of Qatar initiated and financed for world peace and development. This strengthens the capacities of states, especially developing countries, to combat organized crime and associated drug crimes, terrorism and corruption, and to immunize the public, especially young people, from the dangers of such crimes.

For his part, HE the ambassador said that the State of Qatar is financing this program with a total of $50 million. He added that the program includes various projects and activities to prevent youth from crime through sport, enhance the integrity of the judiciary, rehabilitate prisoners and educate for justice, so far more than 190 countries have benefited from the program.

The latest achievements of the program were the launch of the Global Judicial Integrity Network, Prevention of Violent Extremism through Education, in which UNICEF was involved, in addition to prison reform and prison rehabilitation program.
