Qatar Strongly Condemns Announcement by Honduras to Open Diplomatic Office in Occupied Jerusalem

Doha / Information Office / August 30

The State of Qatar strongly condemned the announcement by Honduras to open a diplomatic office in occupied Jerusalem in preparation for moving its embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered this step as a departure from the international consensus reflected in the rejection of the United Nations General Assembly to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and its call on all states to refrain from establishing diplomatic missions there.

The statement affirmed Qatar's firm and permanent stance in supporting the Palestinian cause and the steadfastness of the brotherly Palestinian people on the basis of the resolutions of international legitimacy and the two-state solution to ensure the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
