Qatar Strongly Condemns Mass Graves in Libyan City of Tarhuna

Doha / Information Office / June 17

The State of Qatar voiced its condemnation and strong denunciation of the existence of mass graves in the city of Tarhuna in Libya.

Qatar said in a statement today that some parties in Libya, which use brutal outlaw militia, did not respect the sanctity of Libyan blood and the right of Libyans to a decent life. They committed a crime against humanity with this indiscriminate killing, and did not respect the dignity of the Libyans upon death by burying the victims in a way that neither respects human nor divine laws.

While expressing the State of Qatar's strong condemnation, the statement warns at the same time the international community against turning a blind eye to humanitarian crimes in Libya, as this leniency with regard to war criminals in Libya has led to the massacres of innocent and defenseless civilians from the brotherly Libyan people.

The statement stressed that the State of Qatar joins its voice to that of other countries calling for an independent and impartial investigation that guarantees accountability for criminals who are behind the crime and rehabilitation of the families of the deceased.

The statement pointed out that the State of Qatar confirms that stability in Libya is dependent on a comprehensive political process that brings together all sects of the brotherly Libyan people in accordance with the relevant UN references, on top of which the UN Security Council Resolution 2259.
