Lebanese President Meets Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs

HE President of the Republic of Lebanon General Michel Aoun met Tuesday with HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

At the beginning of the meeting, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed the greetings of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to HE President of the Republic of Lebanon, and HH the Amir's wishes to the Lebanese people of further progress and prosperity. His Excellency also conveyed the condolences of HH the Amir to HE the Lebanese President on the victims of the explosion that occurred in the Beirut port, and HH the Amir's wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.

For his part, HE the Lebanese President entrusted HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to convey his greetings to HH the Amir, whishing HH the Amir health and happiness and the people of Qatar more progress, development and prosperity.

HE the President of Lebanon also thanked HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani for his stances in support of Lebanon at all times, and appreciated the prompt response of the State of Qatar, under the directives of HH the Amir, to provide immediate relief aid to Lebanon after the explosion of Beirut port.

For his part, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs said that the State of Qatar is committed to stand by the brotherly Lebanese people in the reconstruction phase, support efforts to overcome the humanitarian catastrophe and continue support in light of its economic crisis in view of the aggravated Coronavirus pandemic.

In remarks after his meeting with HE President General Michel Aoun, His Excellency said that Lebanon is going through a critical time, and that his visit is to convey the condolences of the State of Qatar to the Lebanese people, and to wish a speedy recovery for the injured in the Beirut port explosion.

He added: "HH the Amir's directives are clear to study the projects affected by this explosion, and we are about to complete a study of rebuilding public schools in partnership with UNICEF, and rehabilitating some damaged hospitals in Lebanon."

He confirmed the existence of a pre-plan by the State of Qatar to help the Lebanese people overcome the economic crisis before this explosion, adding that the State of Qatar has views that will be discussed with the Lebanese government.

His Excellency said that there is no doubt that there is a need for political and social stability in Lebanon in order to support this reform process, hoping that all political and social forces in Lebanon place the interest of the Lebanese people at the center of these reforms, and ensure that these reforms stem from the needs of the Lebanese people not from any external pressures.
