His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar on January 27, 2016. On November 15, 2017, his excellency was named Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In his current capacity as the Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency’s functional priorities include implementing foreign policy, maintaining strategic bilateral and multilateral relations, leading mediation efforts, and consolidating international peace and security by encouraging the peaceful settlement of international disputes.
His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs currently serves as the Chairman of Qatar Development Fund, a public development institution that is committed, on behalf of the State of Qatar, to improving the livelihood of communities around the world.
His Excellency serves as the Chairman of Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), member of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investments (SCEAI).
His Excellency previously served as the Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs in 2013. His policies focused on promoting multilateral cooperation along with implementing the development and aid agenda of the State of Qatar.
In 2010, Sheikh Mohammed served as the Secretary of the Personal Representative of His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, for Follow-up Affairs. In the same year, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Mining Company. Shortly after that, His Excellency was appointed as the Chairman of the Executive Committee on the Development of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aspire – Katara Investment Company.
In 2009, Sheikh Mohammed was appointed Director of Department for Public-Private Partnerships at the Ministry of Business and Trade. His policy agenda aimed at fostering economic diversification programs through attracting foreign direct investments (FDIs) to Qatar, and through promoting entrepreneurial ventures to contribute to the country’s economic growth. In the same year, Sheikh Mohammed launched Enterprise Qatar, an organization that provided technical and financial support for small and medium size enterprises.
In 2005, His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed served as the Director of Economic Affairs at the Supreme Council of Family Affairs for four years.
His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs graduated from Qatar University with a degree in Economics and Business Administration in 2003.
