Qatar Participates in GCC-China Joint Ministerial Meeting

The State of Qatar took part in the joint ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council and the People's Republic of China, held virtually on Monday.

HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi represented the State of Qatar at the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs said that the meeting comes amidst extremely crucial circumstances due to the security, economic and political challenges facing the world, in addition to the serious negative consequences of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which emphasizes the importance of joint work and the aspiration to further advancing the bilateral cooperation mechanisms to broader horizons, consistent with the strong and deep-rooted relations between the two sides.

HE Al Muraikhi underlined that strengthening this cooperation would no doubt enable both sides to achieve the desired goals, promote the strategic partnership, and coordinate on the current crises and issues of common concern, thus contributing to achieving regional and global security and stability.

HE affirmed that the historic relations between the GCC states and the People's Republic of China are developing steadily, especially in the fields of economy, trade, energy, investment, finance, and others, which is confirmed by the volume of trade exchange between the two sides.

At the bilateral level, HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi said that the State of Qatar and the People's Republic of China enjoy growing relations of friendship that are developing in all fields, adding that China is one of the largest trading partners of the State of Qatar.

HE indicated that the State of Qatar was one of the first countries to support the Belt and Road initiative given its strategic goals and unlimited opportunities to boost the economy in Asia and the world.
