The State of Qatar Reiterates Support for UNHCR

The State of Qatar reiterated Thursday its commitment to supporting the efforts of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in implementing its humanitarian programs all over the world.

The State of Qatar expressed its appreciation to the UN High Commissioner and Filippo Grandi's efforts in protecting the rights of refugees. The State of Qatar also expressed its appreciation to the efforts of all workers in that field. This came in the speech of the State of Qatar read out by Second Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva Talal Al Naama during the annual pledging conference organized by UNHCR.

Al Naama stressed that the State of Qatar believes in the importance of enhancing cooperation between international parties to face global crisis, and as a result has worked on enhancing the partnership with the UNHCR by providing different kinds of support. He highlighted the strategic partnership signed between Education Above All and the UNHCR to meet the needs of children in the hardest to reach areas. He also highlighted the partnership signed between Qatar Airways and UNHCR to use the carrier's network in providing aid to refugees all over the world.

He noted that the State of Qatar is close to formalizing the financing plan of 2021, which includes all the UN agencies and programs. He added that the plan will be announced soon, and will include support for the UNHCR that would enhance Qatar's position in the $20 million plus club that includes the most prominent donor countries.

He highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic has hit the whole world and created challenges that cannot be faced unilaterally.
