HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Federal Republic of Germany Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Thani affirmed that the minimum wage law will directly benefit more than 400,000 workers and their families abroad, making Qatar the first country in the region to introduce a non-discriminatory minimum wage, as part of a series of historic reforms of the country's labor laws.

In a press release, His Excellency said that the new law will apply to all workers of all nationalities and in all sectors, including domestic workers.

He added that to ensure the strict compliance with the minimum wage, the government is enhancing the detection of violations, enacting swifter penalties and increasing the number of surprise inspection visits.

HE pointed out that the law also stipulated the formation of a specialized commission that will ensure the application the minimum wage, and propose adjustments, in consultation with different government bodies, experts, workers and employers.

HE the Ambassador noted that the International Labour Organization (ILO) Office in Qatar welcomed the entry into force of the new law, stressing that the law was issued after a comprehensive study conducted by the State of Qatar and ILO in consultation with local and international experts, workers and employers from various economic sectors.
