Qatar, Azerbaijan Hold 3rd Meeting of Joint Intergovernmental Trade-Economic and Technical Committee

The Qatar-Azerbaijan joint intergovernmental trade-economic and technical committee held today its third meeting in Baku.

The Qatari side was chaired by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, while the Azerbaijani side was chaired by HE Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan Kamaladdin Heydarov.

The statement of the third meeting of the Qatar-Azerbaijan joint intergovernmental trade-economic and technical committee was signed today, which includes ways to develop bilateral relations in all fields.

HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, in his opening speech, expressed thanks to HE Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the efforts made to organize the committee's meeting, which coincides with Azerbaijan's independence day on Oct. 18. His Excellency congratulated the government and people of Azerbaijan, and wished the country more progress and prosperity.

HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani welcomed Azerbaijan's delegation that's participating in the meeting and includes ranking officials from the state, which reflects the importance Azerbaijan assigns to the work of the committee.

His Excellency said that the committee's third meeting is an embodiment of the political will of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev with regards to enhancing cooperation in different fields, particularly in commerce and investment.

His Excellency said that ties between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Azerbaijan are strong, based on mutual respect and joint interests, as they stem from the two countries' commitment to the prosperity of their people.

His Excellency said he looks forward to exchanging views and intensifying efforts in the coming period to build sustainable commerce and investment partnerships that help enhance ties to the distinguished levels political ties enjoys. His Excellency added that this would serve their economic strategies as both countries are looking to diversify their economies away from oil.

His Excellency said that the State of Qatar's delegation participating in the meeting is interested in discussing promising investment opportunities in different fields, particularly in infrastructure and renewable energy.

His Excellency called on businessmen in the Republic of Azerbaijan to get to know the investment climate in the State of Qatar, which relies on the country's strong infrastructure that includes Hamad International Airport, Hamad Port, as well as free zones and logistical and industrial areas.

He highlighted the agreement exempting citizens of both countries from visas, which was signed today, as something that will play a big role in enhancing the tourism sector and as a result the economies of the two countries.
