GCC representatives reiterated their steadfast positions on Afghanistan – respect for its sovereignty, independence, unity, territorial integrity and non-interference in its internal affairs. They further stressed the importance of national reconciliation and a consensus political solution that fulfills aspirations of the people of Afghanistan, takes into consideration the interests of all components of society and respects basic freedoms and rights, including women’s right to work and education.

GCC representatives expressed concerns that terrorist groups may be able to launch attacks from Afghanistan’s territory against other countries or their interests. They emphasized the need for the de facto authority to ensure that Afghanistan’s territory will not be used by any terrorist group, or exploit it to export drugs to the countries of the region. They also stressed the importance to abide by relevant resolutions of the United Nations and Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The meeting stressed the importance of continued engagement to contribute to preserving Afghanistan’s security and stability and meeting the humanitarian needs of the brotherly people of Afghanistan and thanked the State of Qatar for hosting this important meeting.
