Geneva - Information Office - August 30

The State of Qatar participated Tuesday in the fourth meeting on Syria in Geneva, which was called for by the United States.

HE Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi headed the Qatari delegation during the meeting.

In his remarks during the meeting, His Excellency said that this group has a great responsibility to coordinate and help end the suffering the Syrians have endured during the past eleven years.

His Excellency added that although there has been no significant change since the last meeting in Brussels, concentrated efforts are more necessary than ever to support the Syrians and preserve their dignity.

HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional Affairs urged international partners to continue their efforts to provide the necessary support to the Syrian people. In addition, His Excellency praised the role of host countries that provide support to the Syrian refugees until their voluntary and safe return to their homes.

His Excellency reiterated the position of the State of Qatar calling for a solution to the Syrian crisis through the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2254, expressing deep concern about the suspension of the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, and the failure of the Syrian regime to take any political steps towards finding a solution to the crisis.
