Doha/ Information Office/ 03 August 2015/ Qatar and Russia agree that the only solution to the Syrian crisis is a political one accepted by Syrian people, said HE Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah. Speaking at a press conference after a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, HE Al Attiyah said Qatar is working with the friends in Russia and the rest of friendly countries to find a solution to the Syrian crisis. He added that he held with his Russian counterpart a consultation session where they discussed bilateral relations between Qatar and Russia, and reviewed the situation in the region and ways to solve its crises through political means. HE Al Attiyah said the consultations touched on Syria, Iraq and Yemen, and the best ways for cooperation with the friends in Russia to find the best political ways out of these crises affecting the region. He described the Qatari-Russian ties as historic, pointing as well to the long-standing Arab-Russian relations. He added that Russia has supported Arab issues on many occasions, one of those is the Palestinian cause. HE the Foreign Minister said he discussed with Mr Lavrov the situation in occupied Palestine and in Gaza and the West Bank, in addition to the best ways to speed up the peace process, and working together with Russia in order to reach the desired two-state solution to the Palestinian issue. His Excellency stressed that Qatar's relationship with Russia is covering many aspects including bilateral relations, and other agreed upon areas. With regards to the Syrian crisis, HE Al Attiyah said that they were working together to meet the Syrian people's aspirations.
